Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr. was only 16 when he started college? That is just one of the interesting facts about Dr. King that Mrs. Cowan’s 4th graders read over the intercom at Fairmount School.
Martin Luther King Day was celebrated on January 15th this year. Our class researched interesting facts and had some good discussion about this important day. Fascinating facts about Dr. King and inspiring quotes said by him were read aloud by students after morning announcements. Throughout the school many books were read about the civil rights era. Many students were able to listen to a recording of Dr. King speak in front of the Lincoln Memorial, as he gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Lots of learning and meaningful discussion took place around this important topic. As Dr. King once said, “ If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, keep moving forward.”
