Bangor, Maine — Fairmount School and the Bangor School Department are proud to announce that Marcy Soucy has been selected as the 2026 Penobscot County Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Soucy serves as Fairmount School’s Accelerated and Gifted & Talented teacher and has become a cornerstone of the school community through her unwavering dedication to students, innovative instructional practices, and commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for all learners.
Mrs. Soucy was nominated for this recognition by two Fairmount families whose heartfelt nominations highlighted the profound impact she has had on students and the broader school community. Their nominations spoke to her compassion, creativity, dedication to student success, and the lasting relationships she builds with children and families.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Soucy has consistently demonstrated excellence in education by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and student leadership. Her impact extends far beyond the classroom through her involvement in numerous schoolwide initiatives, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), the SOAR Store, Falcon Council, quarterly celebrations, and school-community outreach efforts. She has also played an instrumental role in developing programs that promote belonging, student voice, and joyful learning experiences for children at Fairmount School.
In addition to her work within the Bangor School Department, Mrs. Soucy was recently selected to serve on the Maine State Numeracy Advisory Council, where she collaborates with educators across the state to strengthen mathematics instruction and student achievement.

The Maine Teacher of the Year Program recognizes educators who demonstrate exceptional teaching, leadership, and dedication to students and their communities. As Penobscot County Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Soucy will now be considered for Maine Teacher of the Year honors.
