All Bangor Schools are closed November 11, 2024, in observation of Veterans Day.
Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. It coincides with other holidays, including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides access to trained crisis counselors offering support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across the United States. The Bangor School Department shares this commitment to mental health access. Students and families have access to school counselors, social workers, therapists, and school psychologists. Through community partnerships with PCHC and funding through the City of Bangor, we are expanding our school based health clinics to provide resources to our students and their families.

I'm thrilled to spotlight our hardworking Fairmount Garden Club this week. As autumn settles in, our dedicated gardeners have been busy putting the garden to bed, ensuring it's ready for its winter slumber. 🍂
We've also celebrated a bountiful harvest of garlic, potatoes, and tomatoes – all thanks to the amazing efforts of our green-thumbed volunteers! 🧄🥔🍅
