Fairmount PTO Bylaws
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Fairmount School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).
Article II: Purpose
The Purpose of the Fairmount PTO is to:
Promote the welfare of children in grades 4 and 5 enrolled at Fairmount School
Encourage parent and teacher involvement in school activities
Facilitate communication and cooperation between parents, teachers, and the school administration
Support and enhance the educational programs and extracurricular activities at Fairmount School
Advocate for the best interests of children and promote a positive school environment
Article III: Membership
Membership in the PTO shall be open to all parents, guardians, teachers, and staff of Fairmount School
Article IV: Meetings
General meetings of the PTO will be held monthly (Last Tuesday of the Month) during the school year
Notice of all meetings shall be provided to the membership at least one week in advance
Each member in attendance is eligible to vote, one vote per person. Absentee votes are not allowed
Article V: Decision-Making Structure
Collective Leadership: The PTO shall operate under a collective leadership model where all decisions are made by the general membership through consensus or majority vote.
Committees: To facilitate the work of the organization, standing and ad-hoc committees shall be established as necessary. These committees will report to the membership at regular meetings. Any member of the PTO may join a committee. Each committee shall select its own chairperson, who will act as point of contact and report back to the general membership.
Standing Committees may include, but are not limited to:
Fundraising Committee
Events Committee
Communications Committee
Volunteer Committee
Ad-Hoc Committees may be established by the membership as needed to address specific issues or projects.
Facilitator: A facilitator, from within the Fairmount School Staff, shall be selected by consensus at the first meeting of the year. The facilitator will lead meetings and ensure that discussions remain productive. The facilitator may be rotated periodically, as decided by the membership.
Secretary: A secretary shall be selected by consensus at the first meeting of the year. The secretary will be responsible for maintaining meeting minutes and records. The secretary may be rotated periodically, as decided by the membership.
Treasurer: A treasurer shall be selected, from within the Fairmount School Staff, at the first meeting of the school year. The treasurer will manage the financial affairs of the PTO, including maintaining accurate records of income and expenditures. The treasurer may be rotated periodically, as decided by the membership.
Article VI: Finances
The fiscal year of the PTO shall be from July 1, to June 30.
The treasurer shall keep accurate records of all financial transactions of the PTO and shall present a financial report at each general meeting
All funds of the PTO shall be deposited in a checking/savings account in the name of Fairmount PTO
Expenditures of PTO shall be made by check
The financial records of the PTO shall be subject to an annual audit by a committee
Article VII: Amendments
Amendments to the bylaws may be proposed by any PTO member. These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting at any general meeting, provided that notice of the proposed amendment(s) has been given to the membership at least two weeks in advance.
Article VIII: Dissolution
In the event of dissolution of the PTO, any funds remaining shall be used to pay any outstanding bills, and then donated to Fairmount School
These bylaws were adopted on 5/28/24
